We are helping to rehome a Havana Brown cat that came to us with his Ragdoll brother who is also available for adoption. We are not a rescue- we are just helping out in a family crisis.
He is not neutered and I was not able to get his papers or his shot records, therefore his new family will want to make sure these things are done & will need to sign a contract that they will do this ASAP. He is about a year old and I know she paid nearly $1,000 for him! (crazy I know).
Havana Browns are a breed- although still fairly rare in the US. They were developed from cross-breeding Siamese and Domestic Black cats, (you can learn about them at the same place I did-- http://www.cfainc.org/Breeds/BreedsCJ/HavanaBrown.aspx) His eyes aren't the shocking green that most of them are-- his are more greenish yellow. I think it is cool- but it is probably a fault in the cat show world. But is coat is chocolate brown and reminds me of mink.
Cocoa definitely has some of his Siamese ancestor's traits. He is very talky- somewhat aloof and full of "cattitude" He has never been around children and I wouldn't recommend him in a house with kids under 12. He has claws and I don't think he would hesitate to use them if he were being cuddled against his will. (he is not a vicious cat from hell-- but he doesn't like to be manhandled, he prefers to come up to you for scratches behind the ear and the occasional head boop or finger sniff on HIS terms, sometimes he will allow you to hold him like a baby & cuddle with him- but it is on HIS terms). He also loves being up high so a cat tree or perches are going to be a must!
We were going to try to keep him but we have a senior rescue who was declawed (not by us so don't even go there) and they torture him and he has no defenses. He doesn't seem bonded to his brothers so they do not need to go together. He seems to get along with females, but because he is not neutered, he has some serious romantic inclinations. But knowing how he is with our male- I wouldn't recommend him to go to a home with another male unless you are able to neuter him right away and be able to work with them. As I mentioned in our other ad- they almost pack together to torture our cat, but maybe if they were separated, they might not be such bullies.
We are in Kenosha, and will not ship him. We are NOT moving to some missionary in Kenya or asking for money orders and delivery fees- we are a real family trying to find a home for a real cat. His adoption fee is $200.
He has never been around dogs not has he been an outside cat. I must insist that he is never be allowed to roam outside.
